Die Kirche Agii Theodori, Hagioi Theodoroi oder Naos Hagion Theodoron („Kirche der heiligen Theodore“), ist ein byzantinischer Kirchenbau des 11. Jahrhunderts in Athen. Die Kirche, die das Patrozinium des beiden heiligen Theodore (Theodor Tiro und seines hagiographischen „Doppelgängers“ Theodor Stratelates) trägt, befindet sich am Klafthmonos-Platz, südlich der Evropidou- und Skouleniou-Straße.
Architektur
Bei dem Kirchenbau handelt es sich um eine kleine zweisäulige Kreuzkuppelkirche. Beim Neubau im 12. Jahrhundert wurde sie aus Natursteinlagen mit Ziegelsteinlagen dazwischen errichtet. Es gab auch „kufische Verzierungen“. Später wurde ein Glockenturm angefügt. Der Ostgiebel wird durch drei voluminöse Apsiden erweitert. Die Malereien im Innern der Kirche sind viel neueren Datums. Sie stammen aus dem 20. Jahrhundert und wurden von dem Maler Athanasios Kandri ausgeführt.
Geschichte
Die Kirche wurde laut einer Inschrift an der Westseite 1049 oder 1065 gegründet und im 12. Jahrhundert völlig neu gebaut. Als Erbauer wird der byzantinische Beamte (Spatharokandidatos) Nikolaos Kalomalos genannt. 1821 wurde die Kirche während der griechischen Revolution schwer beschädigt, 1840 jedoch wieder restauriert.

The church building is a small two-column cross-domed church. In the new building in the 12th century, it was built from natural stone layers with brick layers in between. There were also "kufic ornaments". Later, a bell tower was added. The eastern pediment is extended by three voluminous apses. The paintings inside the church are much more recent. They date from the 20th century and were executed by the painter Athanasios Kandri.
story
The church was founded in 1049 or 1065 according to an inscription on the west side and completely rebuilt in the 12th century. As a builder, the Byzantine official (Spatharokandidatos) is called Nikolaos Kalomalos. In 1821, the church was severely damaged during the Greek Revolution, but restored in 1840.
