Partnership with the English community Caddington, Neustadt-Glewe in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and community friend Waldbrunn in the Westerwald
At the end of the seventies, the municipal council decided to form a partnership with a European community. With the help of the Council of European Municipalities, the partnership with the English municipality of Caddington, which is located about 60 km north of London in southern Bedfordshire, originated in 1980.
The partnership with Neustadt-Glewe in Mecklenburg, founded on January 13, 1991, is a consequence of the fall of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of Germany. Whereas in the early nineties it was primarily a matter of assisting in the construction of a new local government, today it is a common undertaking, such as sightseeing, excursions and field trips, to get to know the country, its people and practices after decades of separation.
On the occasion of the Musikschau der Nationen in neighboring Hamburg in 1981, the contact between the Volunteer Fire Brigade Ellar in Hesse's community of Waldbrunn in the Westerwald and the Volunteer Fire Brigade Oststeinbek was established.
