This sign gives information on Humpback, and Southern Right Whales, that can sometimes be seen, as they migrate past here. It reads:

Have a whale of a time
Humpback Whales
Feeding in cold Antarctic waters during summer, they migrate northward to bree in the warmer waters off the Queensland coast. Travelling close to the coast in this region between May and August, their numbers peak between June and July.
- Look for a wave from the long pectoral fin or tail flukes;
- Enjoy watching them launch from the water in a display known as breaching that shows off their throat grooves.
- Adults grow in length between 11.5 metres to 15 metres.
- Assist with the annual census for Humpback Whales by contacting ORRCA on (02) 9415 3333 for details.

Southern Right Whale
Feeding in cold Antarctic waters during summer, they migrate northwards during autumn to breed in the warmer waters off the New South Wales coast during winter. In recent times the most sightings have been in the Coffs Harbour area.
- Look for a smooth back with light coloured patches called callostites around the face.
- Adults grow up to 18 metres in length which is longer than a bus at 13 metres.
- Note that there is no fin on their back.
