Marker in front of church says the congregation was organized in 1862. All that remains of the Searsville community is the church.

Texas Escapes

Josiah LeGrand Sears came to the site in 1854 from Virginia and opened a general store here. Whatever history Searsville had was kept among the residents. No one seems to have bothered to record the population at any point during Searsville's founding and decline. A post office was opened in 1859 but did not survive the Civil War.
