"The church is dedicated to Saint Piat who was the first martyred evangelist in Tournai where he was beheaded, and legend has it that he continued his way, his head in his hands, towards Seclin where he finally collapsed and The stone slab engraved with stone from Tournai, still located today in the crypt of the collegiate church of this small town in the Lille region, depicts him in priestly vestments, with both hands on top of his skull.
The current building is Romanesque and Gothic. The nave, Romanesque style, is from the middle or the second half of the twelfth century. The north tower was elevated in the course of the beginning of the thirteenth century as evidenced by the formula, very characteristic, small columns in offense framing its berries of the upper part.
The choir, Gothic style, was erected in the course of the third quarter of the fourteenth century, when it was also pierced the large bay ogival façade.
In the seventeenth century were grafted north and south of the nave two chapels. That of the north is dedicated to Our Lady of Alsemberg, a Marian cult that in the fifteenth century enjoyed wide dissemination in our regions.
The treasure of the church still retains a superb silver statue of the eighteenth century depicting the Virgin of Alsemberg, the work of the goldsmith Tournais Ghislain Sailly (1759).
The other chapel opposite, on the south side, is dedicated to Saint Hubert. Today there are still five large paintings by the painter Jean-Baptiste Hennequin, famous pupil of the French painter Jacques-Louis David, who tell the story of the patron saint of the Ardennes. "

"L’église est dédiée à saint Piat qui fut le premier évangéliste martyr de Tournai où il fut décapité. La légende raconte qu’il continua sa route, sa tête entre les mains. en direction de Seclin où il finit par s'effondrer et où il aurait été inhumé. Une dalle gravée en pierre de Tournai, aujourd'hui encore localisée dans la crypte de la collégiale de cette petite ville de la région lilloise, le représente en habits sacerdotaux, portant des deux mains le sommet de son crâne.
L'édifice actuel est de styles roman et gothique. La nef, de style roman, est à dater du milieu ou de la seconde moitié du XIIe siècle. La tour nord fut élevée dans le courant du début du XIIIe siècle ainsi qu'en témoigne la formule, très caractéristique, des colonnettes en délit encadrant ses baies de la partie supérieure.
Le choeur, de style gothique, a été érigé dans le courant du troisième quart du XIVe siècle, époque à laquelle fut également percée la grande baie ogivale de façade.
Au XVIIe siècle furent greffées au nord et au sud de la nef deux chapelles. Celle du nord est dédiée à Notre-Dame d'Alsemberg, un culte marial qui connut au XVe siècle une large diffusion dans nos régions.
Le trésor de l'église conserve encore une superbe statue d'argent du XVIIIe siècle représentant la Vierge d'Alsemberg, oeuvre de l'orfèvre tournaisien Ghislain Sailly (1759).
L'autre chapelle en vis-à-vis, du côté sud, est consacrée à saint Hubert. S'y trouvent aujourd'hui encore cinq grandes toiles dues au peintre Jean-Baptiste Hennequin, élève célèbre du peintre français Jacques-Louis David, qui racontent l'histoire du patron de l'Ardenne."
