Located in the heart of a pleasant park, the Town Hall occupies part of the former Benedictine abbey of Saint-Martin, Tournai monastery of the 11th century removed in 1797 and most buildings, including the church, have disappeared .

The main building was built in 1763 under the abbey of Robert Delzenne, according to the plans of the architect Laurent Dewez. It served as an abbey palace until the abbey was abolished.

The municipal administration left the old hall of the Consaux (demolished in 1818) for this palace, in September 1809. The neoclassical facades escaped the fire that ravaged the interior of the building in 1940.

From the old monastery, there remains the impressive and severe Romanesque crypt, admirably restored, and part of the cloister that appears as a very graceful piece of Gothic architecture from the late 15th century.
