[GER] Der 1884-1889 als Allgemeines Krankenhaus errichtete Baukomplex wurde nach Plänen von Baudirektor Carl Zimmermann zur Entlastung des alten Krankenhauses St. Georg gebaut. Dabei verwirklichte man hygienische Vorstellungen des Ärstlichen Direktors von St. Georg, Heinrich Curschmann. Die für Hamburg neuartige Pavillonbauweise sollte die Ansteckungsgefahr mindern, licht und luftdurchflutete Räume in parkartiger Umgebung sollten die Heilung fördern. Die später mehrfach erweiterte Anlage wurde 1934 Universitäts-Krankenhaus.
Das große Hamburg-Wappen mit den flankierenden Löwen und dem Helmschmuck besindet sich auf dem Dach des ehemaligem Eingangsbebäudes über den EIngangstüren.
[ENG] The building complex, built in 1884-1889 as a general hospital, was built according to plans by the construction director Carl Zimmermann to relieve the old St. Georg hospital. Thereby hygienic ideas of the Medical Director of St. Georg, Heinrich Curschmann, were realized. The new pavilion design for Hamburg was intended to reduce the risk of infection, and light and air-flooded rooms in park-like surroundings were intended to promote healing. Later extended several times, it became a university hospital in 1934.
The large Hamburg coat of arms with the flanking lions and the helmet decoration is located on the roof of the former entrance building above the entrance doors.

[GER] Das Wappen von Hamburg zeigt in Rot eine hervorkommende silberne Burg mit geschlossenem Rundbogentor, auf dem Zinnenkranz mit sieben Zinnen drei Türme, die beiden Äußeren vierfach gezinnt und von je einem sechszackigen silbernen Stern überhöht, der mittlere großer mit Kuppel, darauf ein Knauf und ein Kreuz.
Auf dem rot-silbern bewulsteten Bügelhelm mit rot-silbernen Decken fächerweise sechs seitlich abflatternde rote Lanzenfähnchen, darauf die silberne Burg, zwischen der ersten und zweiten, der dritten und vierten und der fünften und sechsten Lanzenstange je eine natürliche Pfauenfeder. Schildhalter: rechts und links ein widersehender goldener Löwe.
[ENG] The coat of arms of Hamburg shows in red a protruding silver castle with a closed round arched gate, on the battlements with seven battlements three towers, the two outer ones tinned fourfold and each heightened by a six-pointed silver star, the middle big one with dome, on it a knob and a cross.
On the red-silver beaded helmet with red-silver covers fan-wise six red lance flags fluttering off at the sides, on it the silver castle, between the first and second, the third and fourth and the fifth and sixth lance pole a natural peacock feather each. Shield holder: right and left a resisting golden lion.
