Spanish-American War Medal of Honor Recipient for action on board the USS Marblehead at Cienfuegos, Cuba on May 11, 1898. He served in the U.S. Navy under the name of Albert Vadas and changed is name to Albert Wadas, his burial name. He is buried in Weehawken Cemetery, North Bergen, NJ in Block 41, Row 13, Grave 33.

Citation: On board the U.S.S. Marblehead during the operation of cutting the cable leading from Cienfuegos, Cuba, 11 May 1898. Facing the heavy fire of the enemy, Vadas displayed extraordinary bravery and coolness throughout this period.
