Nicht ohne weiteres lassen sich die Ideen und Hintergründe, die in die „Toleranz“ von Joachim Bandau
auf dem Theatervorplatz eingegangen sind und die das Kunstwerk „kommunikativ aufladen“, nachvollziehen. Die Skulptur aus dem Jahr 1998 auf dem Theatervorplatz ist dem Westfälischen Frieden von 1648 gewidmet. Sie besteht aus einem halbkreisförmigen, etwa zwei Meter hohen Stahlelement und einem gleich schweren, rechteckigen, fünf Meter langen Kupferelement, die ohne feste Verbindung ineinandergreifen und sich gegenseitig stabilisieren, ist der Versuch einer ungegenständlichen Versinnbildlichung von Toleranz. Für Münster schuf Eduaardo Chillida 1993 das dem gleichen Anlass gewidmete Denkmal „Toleranz durch Dialog“.

The ideas and background that go into "tolerance" of Joachim Bandau on the forecourt of the theater are not easy to understand. Nor that the work of art is "communicatively charged". The sculpture from 1998 on the theater forecourt is dedicated to the Peace of Westphalia from 1648. It consists of a semicircular steel element, about two meters high and an equally heavy, rectangular, five-meter-long copper element, which interlock without mutual connection and stabilize each other. It is the attempt of a non-objective symbolization of tolerance. In 1993 Eduaardo Chillida created the monument "Tolerance through Dialogue" dedicated to the same occasion.
