Nauset Light was originally constructed in 1877 in Chatham, MA. The cast iron and brick, conical tower was moved to Nauset Beach in 1923 to replace three small, wood lighthouses, known as the Three Sisters of Nauset, that had been decommissioned. The 48' tower is painted red on top of white with a black lantern whose focal height is 120' above sea level. The lantern uses a Carlisle & Finch DB-224 lens with a range of 24 nautical miles that flashed alternating red and white every 10 seconds.
In 1996 Nauset Light was moved back 300' west from its cliff side location due to coastal erosion which brought the sea within 25' of the lighthouse.
