"DART: A Safe Place to Get Help

FOR YOUTH...SOMEPLACE TO GO. SOMEONE TO HELP.

DART: A Safe Place to Get Help

DART is proud to become a part of the Safe Place program, a national non-profit organization that builds community safety nets for young people in crisis.

This new partnership represents an important step forward in protecting DFW's youth - and another way DART can combat human trafficking.

What is Safe Place?

The concept of Safe Place is simple. When young people see the Safe Place logo, they know it's somewhere they can get help immediately.

Safe Place extends the reach of local youth services, shelters and organizations to support children in crisis situations, creating networks of community access points where young people can seek assistance.

The program works through public and private partnerships at a local, state and national level.

Who Needs Help?

The organization provides assistance to youth with difficult problems, such as abuse, neglect, family troubles, dangerous dating situations, bullying, homelessness, drug abuse and more.

What is the Goal?

Safe Place wants to intervene at the earliest possible stage of a crisis. Many of these young people are abandoned or abused, and few know where to turn. Left alone on the streets, one in three young people get approached or recruited by a predator or human trafficker within 48 hours. By responding quickly, Safe Place is able to minimize the potential for harm.

What Role Does DART Play?

When young people in crisis need help, they simply approach any uniformed DART employee and let them know they need a Safe Place. DART employees then work in coordination with QuikTrip and Jonathan's Place staff to transport the child to safety.

Do You Know a Child in Need?

If you know a young person in need of assistance, please have them text the word SAFE and their current location (city, state, zip) to 69866, or call the National Runaway Safeline at 1.800.RUNAWAY (1.800.786.2929).

About QuikTrip

QuikTrip provides young people with a safe haven from the streets where they can receive food and drink, and wait for a volunteer from a Safe Place agency partner to connect them with professional help or a place to stay until their situation is resolved.

About Jonathan's Place

Jonathan's Place provides a safe, loving home and specialized services for children who have been victims of abuse, abandonment or neglect. In the DFW area, Safe Place partners with Jonathan's Place to create an effective, rapid response."
