This is a Blomefield Smoothbore Muzzle-loading (SBML) cannon from the early 18th century. It stands at the entrance to McBurney (aka Skeleton) Park in Kingston's central area.
This cannon was cast by Samuel Walker and Company (WCo on the right trunnion) of Rotherham, England between 1790 and 1810. It bears the serial number 102 (on left trunnion) and the royal cipher of King George III, located on top. The piece weighs 5,614 pounds, as evidenced by the weight code on the underside: 50-0-14. The name "Blomefield" is attributed to the Chief Inspector of British Armament in the late 18th century who was responsible for the design of many pieces.
Piece is viewable at any time. Easiest access is from Ordnance Street.
