This 2-storey building was built in 1911, but from 1904 to 1911 it was single-storey, wood-clad building with a bull-nose verandah, and a picket fence along the front. There is a Historic Marker on the white-painted brickwork, just to the right of the entrance to Bangalow Pharmacy. The text reads:
Commercial Banking Company
1904 - 1911
"This is the site of the original premises of the Commercial Banking Company of Sydney. It was purpose-built in 1904 for Matthew Gay of Lismore and leased to the CBC. In 1906 the Bank purchased the building.
"In 1907 fire damaged the structure and the facade was altered. Another fire, on 8 August 1911, destroyed it completely.
"The current building was erected in 1911 by William Barby. It has been a bottle shop, cafe and chemist."
