The old dark and creepy stone guardhouse near the parade ground must have creeped out the WPA writers because they spared it a couple of sentences:
"[page 172] The GUARD HOUSE, built in 1849-59 of stone, has a double-barred window. The dungeon is in good condition. Directly north, on the edge of the parade ground, is the SITE OF FORT WILLIAM. "
