Several years back I recall reading an article about a proposed stamp issue featuring all 50 state capitol buildings. This concept has yet to come to fruition ostensibly because a lot of these buildings look so much alike that it wouldn’t be a very interesting set. Another reason stated in the article was that many state capitol buildings have already appeared on stamps. Well, only about a quarter of them have but one of those is Delaware’s “Legislative Hall.”

This building was completed in 1933 and replaced the former “State House” which housed Delaware’s legislative assembly since the days of George Washington. This “Old State House” still stands (opposite Legislative Hall across the green) and serves as a museum. The new building has undergone two major expansions since 1933: one in the late 1960s and another in the early 1990s.

In addition to the State Capitol, the stamp also shows a beach scene. According to the USPS, the beach is at Fenwick Island just north of Ocean City, MD. This is a quiet state park with none of the commercialization of the beaches further north near Rehoboth.
