The J.B. Schrock Community Park project started in 2006 — and the hard work of the individuals who helped with it was recognized Monday.
The park committee received grant money and assistance from many organizations to help purchase two new playground structures.
The park is now accessible to individuals with physical disabilities and features a path through the playground and benches.
The playground is owned by the school, but the borough council leases the land. The J.B. Schrock Community Park committee has maintained the park since 1989.
The playground received funding from:
Community Foundation for the Alleghenies — $2,500
Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources — $48,000
Somerset County commissioners — $8,000
Also helping with financial backing were Somerset Trust Co., Pius Springs Women’s Club and First National Bank of Berlin. Assisting with other functions were Pashek Associates, Larry Philip, members of the Adult Day Care, Jeffrey Associates, David Long, John W. Jacob of Highland Tank & Manufacturing Co. and Operation Outward Reach.
