The sign for the artillery reads:

"This 77mm Field Gun (NR17284) was one of 2 German Artillery pieces captured by the 3rd Battalion A.I.F. on the 18th September, 1918 near the French town of Hargicourt.
Considered by the Allies to be an outpost of the Hindenburg Line, this section of the Western Front was later found to be the German's chief defensive position in which Australian forces captured 4,300 prisoners and 76 artillery pieces.
Of the 6,800 Australian Infantry, machine gunners and trench mortarmen involved in this day's advance, 1,260 were to become casualties.
LEST WE FORGET
The President and Members of the Bomaderry RSL Sub-Branch wish to thank one of it's members, Mr Jack Tarlington for his work and dedication in securing this piece to once again be part of the Shoalhaven, as it was first brought to Australia as a war trophy aboard the SS Bulla in 1919 and was presented to Nowra in the early 1920's."
