Connahs Quay was originally a small port on the River Dee and then after 1896 large steel works were built.

There used to be a power station at the nearby town of Queensferry, but a new larger 180 MW coal fired power station was built at Connahs Quay between 1950 and 1958. This new power station had 3 large cooling towers on the west bank of the River Dee.

The power station closed in 1984 and was demolished in 1992.

The mural in black and white shows a view of the cooling towers as seen from the river, with a small rowing boat in the foreground.
