"Fire broke out at Mill Run United Methodist Church in Springfield Township on the night of Feb. 13, 2012. Eight fire companies from Fayette and Westmoreland counties responded to the blaze that destroyed the landmark church in February 2012.
The church was constructed in 1886 and had been the site of countless weddings, baptisms and funeral services for many generations of the church membership. The following Sunday, on Feb. 18, the congregation met for a church service at Camp Christian chapel just a few miles away.
Since that fire, the size of the congregation has doubled to more than 90 attendees per week.
While the new church isn't completely finished, the congregation actually started to hold worship services there this past October.
It was nearly standing-room only for Friday's dedication ceremony. The church was filled with congregation members, former church pastors, neighboring local pastors, the district superintendent of the Methodist church, and resident bishop of the United Methodist Church as well as anyone else who wanted to attend.
the building features an enormous sanctuary, multi-purpose gymnasium and fellowship hall, kitchen, space for Sunday school classrooms and a car port in front."
