This small maple is located a bit northwest of the Nash Jackson House in Battlefield Park. It was planted in honour of Queen Elizabeth II in celebration of the 60th anniversary of her coronation.
The plaque reads:
THIS CANADIAN MAPLE WAS PLANTED IN CELEBRATION OF THE DIAMOND JUBILEE OF HER MAJESTY, QUEEN ELIZABETH II ON THE OCCASION OF THE 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF HER CORONATION CEREMONY 2 JUNE, 2013.
It is unclear what type of maple this tree is, as there is no "Canadian Maple" species. I would guess that it is a Sugar Maple, or a Red Maple.
About Queen Elizabeth II and the Diamond Jubilee:
The Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II was a multinational celebration throughout 2012, that marked the 60th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II on 6 February 1952. Queen Elizabeth is queen regnant of 16 sovereign states, known as Commonwealth realms, including the United Kingdom. The only other time in British history that a monarch celebrated a Diamond Jubilee was in 1897, when Queen Victoria celebrated hers.
