The Wales coastal path and National Cycle Route 5 pass next to the anchor.

A notice board next to the anchor tells us "The rich, sheltered waters of the Dee Estuary would have attracted fishermen thousands of years ago but the first true industry was probably the Romans smelting lead ore at Okenholt in around 40AD.
br> As industry developed along the coast, the estuary became a busy shipping route, exporting coal lead and other goods...
...Many fine ships were built at Connah's Quay and by 1900 Flint Port was handling 8429 tons of cargo.

Today many of the old industries have gone and nature continues to soften the scars on the landscape. Modern, cleaner industries flourish alongside the estuary where over 130,000 waders and wildfowl spend the winter and everyone can enjoy the new, improved access to this unique coastline."

The anchor acts as a reminder of the area's past.
