La première pierre de palais de justice de Limoges a été posée le 29 juillet 1838. De style antique, sa place est stratégique car il domine à la fois la ville de Limoges (il est installé sur le point le plus haut du centre-ville) et plus symboliquement le justiciable (avec sa rangée de marches).
