A little machine that lets users create a water tornado by cranking a handle

The cylindrical display is filled with water and at the bottom there is a metal propeller that can be turned by using the handle at the machine. If you do this for a little while and build enough momentum, the water will start to form into a tornado. Real simple, but sweet.
I assume there is a different liquid than water in there too, because it seems not to get drained for winter. When I took the photos we were right before the real bad cold (-14° celsius) and although none of the fountains in the city are currently running, this dislay is still available and working.

The propeller at the bottom transfers the movement from the handle to the water and creates a whirl

I kind of knew before how to create a whirl, but I think this really shows how it is created and it's great for people who have not yet thought about it and for our little ones.
