Le 21 mars 1884 la loi légalisant les syndicats professionnels ouvriers et patronaux à l'initiative de Pierre Waldeck-Rousseau est adoptée.
Le Congrès constitutif de la confédération générale du travail (CGT) est organisé à Limoges (ville très ouvrière avec les industrie de la porcelaine et du cuir) du 23 au 28 septembre 1895 dont les principales fédération sont le livre et les cheminots.
Elle est toujours le principal syndicat français.

384/5000 March 21, 1884 the law legalizing the professional trade unions and employers at the initiative of Pierre Waldeck-Rousseau is adopted.
The Constitutive Congress of the General Confederation of Labor (CGT) is organized in Limoges (very working town with the porcelain and leather industry) from September 23 to 28, 1895 whose main federation is the book and the railroad workers.
It is still the main French union.
