Be it known that all the names on this monument gave the ultimate sacrifice “To Keep Our Country A Land Of The Free.”
It was my original intention to highlight each of the men listed on this monument. The first name, Cecil G. Bethea, revealed a tale of courage. Unfortunately, for many of the names the search for information was not as successful. Therefore, I have only include the information I found for PFC Bethea.
Cecil G. Bethea died in France on October 9, 1918, at the age of 20. He is buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Houston, TX
(From a scan of the original document, transcribed as it appears. Link below)

He unhesitatingly went forward over open ground and contributed to the capture of several machine-gun nests as well as of numerous prisoners. Was killed at his post of combat.” (Next of kin: Mrs. J.F. Bethea, mother, La Porte, Texas)
