On a tall, two wooden post Welcoming Sign is a narrower board beneath, with:

"ELEVATION 1330m"

Not too far away is the Guyra Summit Caravan Park, which advertises itself as being the "Highest Caravan Park in Australia". [While there are camping areas in the Kosciusko National Park, the caravan park is at a lower elevation!]

An early leasehold of 15,000 acres from 1840 was called 'Gyra', becoming 'Guyra in 1848. [ex-Wikipedia (visit link) ]
