It was at the beginning of the Sixties that Medard Aribot, former convict, built this curious house at the feet of Morne Larcher.

An ornamented wooden doll house, painted in bright colors, enjoying a magnificent panorama of the Caribbean Sea.

Opposite, the Diamant Rock and the Saint Lucia Canal, on the left, the kilometers of sand of the Diamond Cove.

Condemned to life imprisonment in 1925 for his past as a thief and his supposed participation in the events of the "Diamond War", it would seem from the legend that Médard Aribot suffered mostly from his talents as a sculptor.

During the electoral riots that erupted in 1925 on the occasion of the municipal elections, a bust sculpted by Médard waved the crowd. The bust of Colonel de Coppens, retired officer, owner of the Distillery of Dizac, and candidate for the town hall.

At the time, in Martinique, it is not uncommon for the political jousting ends with a blow of cudgel in the street. But there, on May 25, 1925, things will seriously go wrong.

From his military past, Colonel de Coppens has retained a certain taste for arms. And it is through these that he intends to make his arguments. A little angry, the Diamondines massacred him and his escort of gendarmes. 9 dead.

Obviously, the case made a noise, and Médard was condemned to end his days in Cayenne. Released in 1945 at the closing of the prison, he lived in Guyana for a few years before being repatriated to Martinique in 1953.

Site in full nature, access 24/24, free access, on the D37 between the borough of Diamant and that of Petite-Anse (Anses d'Arlet).
