[GER] Das zweitürmige Torhaus wurde 1879 als Eingangsgebäude zu den Fuhlbüttler Strafanstalten errichtet. Im Erdgeschoss befanden sich rechts und links von den mit schweren Toren gesicherten Durchfahrt die Räume der Wachen. Vom Obergeschoss aus war eine Kontrolle des Vorplatzes, der Gefängnismauern und des Hofes hinter diesem Tor möglich.
In der Zeit von 1933 bis 1945 waren die Strafanstalten Fuhlsbüttel Orte brutaler nazionalsozialistischer Verfolgung. Das Torgebäude wurde für viele tausend Opfer zu einem "Tor zur Hölle", zu einem Ort von Willkür und Gewalt der gleichgeschalteten Justiz, der Geheimen Staatspolizei und der NSDAP.
Seit 1987 befindet sich in diesem Torhaus die "Gedenkstätte Konzentrationslager und Strafanstalten Fuhlsbüttel 1933 - 1945"
Am 4. September 2003, 70 Jahre nach der Einrichtung des Konzentrationslagers Fuhlsbüttel, wurde diese Gedenkstätte nach Abschluss umfangreicher Renovierungsarbeiten und der Überarbeitung der Dauerausstellung der Öffentlichkeit erneut übergeben.
Die "Gedenkstätte Konzentrationslager und Strafanstalten Fuhlsbüttel 1933-1945" ist eine Außenstelle der KZ-Gedenkstätte Neuengamme.
Öffnungszeiten: Sonntags 10-17 Uhr und nach Vereinbarung für Führungen. Eintritt frei.
[ENG] The two-towered gatehouse was built in 1879 as an entrance building to the Fuhlbüttler prisons. On the ground floor, the guards' rooms were located to the right and left of the heavy gates. From the upper floor it was possible to control the forecourt, the prison walls and the courtyard behind this gate.
From 1933 to 1945, Fuhlsbüttel prisons were the scene of brutal Nazi persecution. The gate building became a "gate to hell" for many thousands of victims, a place of arbitrariness and violence of the justice system, the secret state police and the NSDAP.
Since 1987, the "Fuhlsbüttel Concentration Camp and Prison Memorial 1933 - 1945" has been located in this gatehouse.
On 4 September 2003,70 years after the establishment of the Fuhlsbüttel concentration camp, this memorial was handed over to the public again after extensive renovation work and the revision of the permanent exhibition.
The "Fuhlsbüttel Concentration Camp and Prison Memorial 1933-1945" is a branch of the Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial.
Opening hours: Sundays 10-17 o' clock and by appointment for guided tours. Free admission.
