You have to smile when you first see this non-ferocious bear.

When we first learned that a new sculpture entitled "Belly Dancer" was going to be placed, we had some concerns. "Is that really appropriate for our town??" Well, to our delight, the sculpture was placed and turned out to be a whimsical bear dancing his heart out. So cute.
This is a bronze figure with Josh Tobey's distinctive "contemporary patina". The bear stands about five feet high. He is standing on his left hind leg, on a two foot high cylinder with a marble slab on top. His head is slightly tilted, and he has his right paw raised in the air and his left paw out in front of him, in a dance pose. The body features are not pronounced, but his expression is definitely one of "fun".
A bronze plaque on the concrete platform reads:

Joshua Tobey sculpts mostly animals, and many with playful demeanor. His website indicates: Josh's work also has a serious side; it depicts the "interdependence of wildlife and humanity" by revealing aspects of human emotion, experience and culture through wildlife
