"In Piazza Tolomei, along Via Banchi di Sopra, which is the main street of the city, there are two very important buildings: Palazzo Tolomei and the Chiesa di San Cristoforo.
The thirteenth-century Palace belongs to the powerful family of bankers and merchants, which Pia de' Tolomei also belonged to, mentioned by Dante Alighieri in the Purgatory of the Divine Comedy and protagonist of the musical written by the Sienese rock star Gianna Nannini.
The Church was the first headquarters of the Council of the Sienese Republic, even if the current one has a different appearance compared to back then, with nineteenth-century facade. The small cloister is lovely, even though it was rebuilt in 1921.
In the centre of the square there’s one of the Sienese she-wolves on column found on the streets of the city."
