When King George VI and Queen Elizabeth toured Canada in 1939, the Royal Train was usually under the power of CP (Canadian Pacific Railway) locomotives 2850 or 2851. Following the 1939 Royal Tour, King George VI granted permission to call this class (H1d) of locomotives the Royal Hudsons. Crowns were then applied to the running boards of Canadian Pacific's 4-6-4 Hudson locomotives numbered CP 2820 through CP 2864.

CP 2858 joined the Canada Science and Technology Museum in 1967.
