[DE] "Verkehrsanker, Touristen-Magnet, Dauer-Shoppingmall: Der Leipziger Hauptbahnhof hat viele wichtige Funktionen. Seit nunmehr einem Jahrhundert prägt er das Stadtbild wie kaum ein anderes Bauwerk. 1915 eröffnet, feiert der heute größte Kopfbahnhof Europas 2015 seinen 100. Geburtstag.
Der Leipziger Hauptbahnhof ist Dreh- und Angelpunkt im Leipziger Verkehrsnetz und aufgrund seiner Architektur und seiner Shopping-Möglichkeiten sowohl bei Touristen als auch bei den Leipzigern selbst sehr beliebt. Das Bahnhofsgelände erstreckt sich auf rund 80.000 Quadratmetern, was Leipzig den Titel "Größter Kopfbahnhof Europas" beschert. Mit rund 1.300 Zügen sowie 120.000 Reisenden und Besuchern täglich gilt er als hoch frequentiert. Einen Anteil an der starken Nutzung des Bahnhofes hat seit 2013 auch der Leipziger Citytunnel, der Leipzig in das Netz der neuen S-Bahn Mitteldeutschland integriert und den Nah- und Fernverkehr weiter stärkt.
Über 140 Einkaufsmöglichkeiten, Restaurants und Dienstleister auf drei Etagen füllen das Innere des Hauptbahnhofes auch abseits des Reiseverkehrs mit Leben. Die Läden und gastronomischen Einrichtungen sind Montag bis Samstag von 9:30 bis 22:00 Uhr geöffnet. Sonntags und an Feiertagen haben rund 80 der Geschäfte von 13 bis 18 Uhr offen.
Zudem bilden die Gänge des Bahnhofes regelmäßig die Kulisse für verschiedenste Ausstellungen und Konzertreihen. Mit seiner imposanten Dekoration und der wunderschönen Außenbeleuchtung sorgt der Leipziger Hauptbahnhof besonders zur Weihnachtszeit immer wieder für leuchtende Besucheraugen. 2015 wird das 100-jährige Bahnhofsjubiläum gebührend gefeiert."
