Our Kingston & Area Ice Stock Club was invited by the Austrian Embassy to demonstrate the sport of ice stock during WinterFest which takes place on the grounds of Rideau Hall every year. We played on this rink. Embassies from northern latitude countries demonstrate traditional activities and/or give away treats that are from the homeland.

The outdoor skating rink was originally built in 1872, during the mandate of the Earl of Dufferin, Canada’s third governor general. Along with his wife, Lady Dufferin—who quickly became a keen skater herself—he organized many skating parties during his stay at Rideau Hall.

You can lace up and leave your bags in the Winter Pavilion, a fine heritage building located next to the rink.
