[DE] "Mitten in der Fußgängezone der Stadt Mayen steht die Pfarrkirche St. Clemens mit ihrem eigenartig gedrehten Turm. Er ist das alles überragende Wahrzeichen der Stadt und weithin sichtbar.
Die heutige Kirche wurde 1296 erstmals erwähnt, zwischen 1350 und 1430 erfolgte der Umbau zur gotischen Hallenkirche des Augustinerstiftes. Damit war St. Clemens eine der ersten gotischen Hallenkirchen am Mittelrhein.
Nachdem sie 1944 zerstört wurde, begann man 1953 mit dem Wiederaufbau. Von 1973 bis 1976 wurden nochmals umfangreiche Restaurierungen durchgeführt. Dabei entstanden auch die von Georg Meistermann geschaffenen Chorfenster, die durch ihrer wohlüberlegte Lichtführung die Atmosphäre des Innenraumes bestimmen."
[EN] "The parish church of St. Clemens with its peculiarly twisted tower stands in the middle of the pedestrian precinct of the city of Mayen. It is the most outstanding landmark of the city and is widely visible.
The present church was first mentioned in 1296, and between 1350 and 1430 it was converted into the Gothic hall church of the Augustinian Monastery. This made St. Clemens one of the first Gothic hall churches on the Middle Rhine.
After it was destroyed in 1944, reconstruction began in 1953. Extensive restoration work was carried out again between 1973 and 1976. The choir windows created by Georg Meistermann were also created in the course of this process, and their well-considered lighting design determines the atmosphere of the interior."
