The mural "Ascending" was painted in 2009 by artist, Lance Hunter. Hunter is a painter and muralist who has won numerous awards. His paintings are on display throughout the country. He is also an Associate Professor of Art at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah.
We would be stretching ourselves if we tried to "explain" this mural as it is replete with symbolism, so we'll leave that analysis to the viewer. A woman up to the neck in water is holding a stack of books on which a candle is burning. A silhouette of the college buildings is in the background and an eagle flies above. Off in the right corner is a sphere which is Earth.
