The Contributing bridge was built in 1936 above the high-water mark of the 1935 flood, which destroyed the 1892 bridge. This dramatic engineering structure signals a distinctive "gateway" for drivers entering the Historic District from the north.
Constructed 1936 by Austin Bridge Co. of Dallas for $155,724 under contract with Texas Highway Department using Federal Emergency Relief funds. At site of earlier, 1892 bridge, but 12' higher than the high water mark of the disastrous flood of June 1935. Named for former mayor of Llano and director of the Lower Colorado River Authority. The 4-span Parker through-truss bridge on concrete piers has great aesthetic and symbolic value as the north side gateway to Llano historic town center.
