In Boston, close to the boundary with Milton, is this staff gauge located on a structure connected to the Granite Avenue Drawbridge.
The drawbridge carries Granite Avenue over the Neponset River, and is about a half mile north of an interchange with I-93.
The gauge is is a white board with horizontal lines painted across it. Numbers are on the right, increasing as you go down. It is attached to a crib structure that is attached to the drawbridge.
On both sides of the bridge is an extensive estuary, open to Boston Harbor. The mouth of the river is about two miles away. Thus, this gauge is likely measuring the local change in tides more than the change in height due to the flow of river water.
RIVER GAUGE INFORMATION: The staff gauge at the Granite Avenue Drawbridge is likely measuring the local tide height.
