"The signalbox at Rothley is situated in the middle of the station on the Down side of the line (the original box was situated at the south end of the station on the same side). The box was originally located at Blind Lane, Wembley and is a GCR box. The structure is all wood and was erected on a new concrete base. The box controls the station area and carriage sidings.

Signals of interest are the Down Distant and Down Outer Home which are both motor worked upper quadrant signals. The points are mechanically worked, although only 1 set directly from the box – the remainder are worked from a ground frame electrically released from the box.

Adjacent to the box is a timber lamp hut which was originally located at Whetstone.

The box, when initially opened in 1990, controlled a passing loop (hence the location of the box in the middle of the station). The opening of the Double Track project in 2000 saw working the introduction of block working northwards on the double line.

Technical information: The signalbox works absolute block on the double line to the north of the station; the single line south to Leicester North is worked as one engine in steam with train staff. It has a 20 lever Railway Signal Company frame with direct tappet locking (this company supplied most GCR London Extension signal box frames). This is a jug handle type frame which has the clasps located at the front of the levers. The signalbox has an illuminated diagram. DC track circuits are provided."

Here is an image of the box in its original position circa 1905 - (visit link) which shows a junction between double and quadruple tracks. The wooden nameplate on the signal box to the left of the lines pinpoints the location to Blind Lane - a point between Sudbury & Harrow Road and Wembley Hill Stations on the Neasden to Northolt line.
