Hazeldean Mall opened for business in November 1979. It is a single-storey indoor shopping centre with two anchor stores. It is the only indoor mall in Kanata and Stittsville. In 2018, only one anchor tenant is occupied. In the past, the mall did have a busy food court. Second Cup, Sushi Teriyaki and the Chicken Ranch are in the food court space in 2018.
Back in 1979, the south-end anchor was the grocery store Steinberg's. That grocery store went out of business in 1992 and was replaced by Your Independent Grocer. That grocery store is open weekdays from 09h00 until 21h00.
In the beginning, the north-end anchor was Towers department store which was eventually replaced by Zellers. When Zellers closed, it was replaced by a Target department store. Since Target Canada went bankrupt, this anchor space has been vacant. Many smaller retailers have also left the mall.
