Pend Oreille County Historical Museum is one of the most interesting museums we have visited, including those that took all day to tour. The museum complex consists of the historic I. & W. N. Depot building built in 1908 which houses the gift shop and displays on the first and second floors. This Monarch Malleable Cook Stove is on the first floor.

This Monarch Malleable wood burning cook stove is early 1900's, and manufactured by the Malleable Iron Range Company in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. Monarch was considered one the best cook stoves made and easier to use then other stoves sold at this time. It sold for about $60.00. There are six removable cast iron cooking plates and two warming compartments. Over all the stove is still in good condition. There is an oven temperature gauge on the oven door. Displayed on the stove are an array of vintage cooking utensils that were typical of this era. Note the canned tomatoes and carrots on the stove, reminiscent of hours spent preserving food items for the family. The hand embroidered tea towel and the old cookbooks were a nice addition also displayed. This is a nice example of their popular Monarch stoves.
