[DE] "Mit dem Bau der kurkölnischen Burg wurde um 1200 begonnen. Im Pfälzer Erbfolgekrieg wurde sie 1689 durch die Franzosen zerstört. Die Kanonenkugeln, welche im Schlossgarten zu einer Pyramide aufgeschichtet wurden, stammen aus der Zeit des Dreißigjährigen Krieges. Die Stadtburg zählt zu den besterhaltenen Ruinen am Mittelrhein. Regelmäßig finden vor der Kulisse der Burgruine das Bäckerjungenfest und der mittelalterliche Halunkenmarkt statt."

[EN] "The construction of the castle, which was was part of the electorate of Collogne, began around 1200. In 1689, during the War of the Palatine Succession ("Nine Years War"), it was destroyed by French troops. The original cannonballs, which have been stacked into a pyramid in front of the wall, stem from the Thirty Years' War."
