EN: The Vitra Slide Tower is a look-out and slide tower on the Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein. The almost 31 meter high tower has an observation deck at 17 meters height, where is also the starting point of a 38 meter long slide. Above the platform, a clock with six meters in diameter is mounted, which slowly rotates around its own axis.
The tower was designed in 2014 by Belgian artist Carsten Höller. The platform offers mainly an overview of the premises of the Vitra Campus where buildings by the star architects Nicholas Grimshaw, Frank Gehry, Zaha Hadid, Tadao Ando, Alvaro Siza, Herzog & de Meuron and SANAA are collected and attract approximately 300,000 visitors interested in architecture and design per year.
DE: Der Vitra Rutschturm oder Vitra Slide Tower ist ein Aussichts- und Rutschturm auf dem Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein. Der fast 31 Meter hohe Turm verfügt über eine Aussichtsplattform in 17 Metern Höhe, wo auch der Startpunkt einer 38 Meter langen Rutschbahn ist. Über der Plattform befindet sich eine Uhr mit sechs Metern Durchmesser, die sich langsam um die eigene Achse dreht.
Der Turm wurde 2014 vom belgischen Künstler Carsten Höller gestaltet. Die Plattform bietet vor allem eine Übersicht über das Gelände des Vitra Campus, wo Bauwerke von Stararchitekten wie Nicholas Grimshaw, Frank O.
