The UP railyard at Platteville is a no-frills no amenities kind of place for the solitary railfan to enjoy the bust Greeley Sub along the UP main between Cheyenne and Denver.
During Frontier days in Cheyenne, the Union Pacific runs special excursion trains from Denver Union Station to Cheyenne, pulled by pone of their historic locomotives (usually the 4-6-4 UP 844 Northern or the 4-6-6-4-UP Challenger 3985, also sometimes acccompanied by the Centennial diesel 6936).
There are plenty of places in this town to watch the UP trains, but most folks head to the railyard for the best views of the Frontier Days Special.
