Standing almost 3 metres high, and each half about 1.5 metres wide, the ornate wrought-iron work has been painted a light green colour. The gates are substantial, and have a castor wheel running on a smooth concrete curved strip, to take weight off of the hinges.
These days the gates are permanently open, but they were built when this was the entry to the Governor's house.
Completed in 1885 the building is a fine example of Victorian romantic architecture being in good condition and a distinguished piece of park architecture well suited to an urban park." Parramatta Park Gatehouse
