The tree and plaque are located in the ruins of Castelo de Tavira. The castle was badly damaged by an earthquake in 1755 and abandoned as a defensive structure.
Some sections of wall are still standing and in the middle there is a small garden.
The plaque is in two parts. The main one records the planting of the Friendship tree.
