Throughout World War II the Netherlands Antilles remained under the control of the Allies. The Netherlands Antilles was a rich source of oil and other supplies for the Allied effort as well as providing sailors for a merchant navy to deliver those supplies. During the war 129 men from the Netherlands Antilles died in service of the war effort.
The Kingdom of the Netherlands gave this monument to the people of the Netherlands Antilles to thank them for their invaluable assistance. It features a 6' high bronze sculpture of the "Lady of Abundance" standing on a 6' high rectangular stone base. The figure is wearing a floor length sleeveless dress and is cradling a cornucopia in her left arm. She is holding a rose in her right hand. The monument has the same inscription in both Dutch and Portuguese.
