Joseph Cox Bridge (1853-1929) was an English organist and composer who was born at Rochester in Kent. He studied under John Hopkins, and from 1871 to 1876 was organist of Exeter College in Oxford. In 1877 he became organist of Chester Cathedral where he revived the Chester triennial festival.
The first event directed by Bridge took the form of a two day festival held on 23rd and 24th July in 1879 in aid of the cathedrals restoration fund. In 1882 the festival was expanded to include six concerts and became a popular triennial event. He conducted every festival between 1879 and 1900. (visit link)
