The National Capital Commission (NCC) maintains waypoint signs throughout the Greenbelt, a natural area which surrounds the city of Ottawa. The waypoints mark trail intersections. The signs include geographic co-ordinates and a map of other waypoints.
When the regional road that we now know as Moodie Drive was first constructed, it was not possible to build the roadbed straight across the swamp. To cross the swamp, a one-mile jog on the east side of the swamp was built.
Coming south from parking lot P9, NCC waypoint sign 26 E marks the intersection of trail #26 and the surviving remnant of the north-south portion of that original roadbed. The trail to the south, signed as a cul-de-sac, has not been maintained for years. The trail to the north meets the sharp-angled turn northwest in the original roadbed at waypoint 26 D.
