The limestone clad Art Deco/Beaux Arts structure, designed by Herbert S. Green, was constructed in 1929 and opened in 1930 as the San Antonio Public Library.

Above the entrance are six panels of relief art. First panel appears to be The Parthenon. Second panel is the Alamo. Third panel is one of the other missions in San Antonio. The fourth panel is the U.S. Capitol Building. The fifth panel is unknown (to me). The sixth panel is Lincoln's Memorial.
