"Carlton lies a couple of miles north of Market Bosworth and 16 miles west of Leicester. It is a small village and has a population of around 300 people. There is no mention of the village in the Domesday Book so this is probably a post Norman settlement. The parish registers go back to 1574.

The church of St Andrew is a brick and stone building rebuilt in 1764 on a stone plinth after the earlier church burnt down.
In 1867 Goddard & Son renovated the church by altering the windows and adding a saddleback top to the tower. At this time the dedication of the church was changed from St Michael to St Andrew. In the northern wall of the nave is a fine stained glass window installed in 1920 and made by Theodora Salusbury of the Angels Michael and Gabriel. There are other examples of her work in the county such as at Narborough All Saints. This has recently been restored.

In 1937 the Rectors daughter raised funds by selling needlework door to door and with this she purchased the clock for the tower. The needlework continues as the church has some fine tapestries made by villagers to commemorate the millennium depicting the houses in the heart of the village."
